Terms for using CharForge.

These Terms govern your use of CharForge (the "Service"). By using the Service you accept these Terms. The summary below is for quick reference; the full Terms further down are the legally binding version.

Summary

AI output — can be inaccurate, biased, similar to third-party material, or unsuitable. We do not guarantee originality, accuracy, or publication suitability.
You own your content. We get a limited license to host and process it only as needed to run the Service.

Plans: Free (3 monthly credits) · Pro $8.99 / month or $79 / year (80 monthly credits) · Pro Plus $15.99 / month or $139 / year (200 monthly credits).
Refunds — subscriptions may be refunded within 7 days; unused credit packs may be refunded.
Prohibited: infringement, harmful content, harassment, fraud, malware, impersonation, scraping, and submission of sensitive data.

Full Terms of Service — binding version

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the higher minimum digital-consent age required where you live. Minors must have the consent or authorization of a parent or guardian. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement.

2. The Service and AI limitations

CharForge is a workspace for novelists, screenwriters, and (as a secondary audience) tabletop RPG Dungeon Masters to draft character bibles, manage cast relationships, and export structured character data to writing software (Markdown, Scrivener .scrivx, Notion-compatible Markdown).

The Service uses automated AI to generate draft text. AI output can be inaccurate, biased, incomplete, similar to third-party material, or unsuitable for a particular audience or purpose. We do not guarantee the accuracy, uniqueness, availability, preservation, fitness for publication, non-infringement, or any creative, commercial, or legal outcome of any output. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, verifying, and using the output. The Service is not a substitute for a publisher, literary agent, editor, lawyer, or any other professional adviser.

3. Accounts and content

You are responsible for the security of your account and for all activity under your credentials. Sign-in is provided through Google OAuth; you must comply with Google's terms in addition to these Terms.

You retain all rights you hold in the input you submit. To the extent rights exist in AI-generated output, those rights are subject to the third-party AI provider's terms and applicable law. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, reproduce, process, transmit, and display your content only as necessary to operate, secure, and improve the Service as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not claim a general model-training license over your content, and we will not assert one unless we provide a separate, conspicuous, and verified disclosure and you give explicit consent.

You represent and warrant that you have the rights and permissions necessary for any content you submit, and that your content does not violate any law or any third-party right (including copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights).

4. Prohibited use

You may not use the Service to:

Infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
Submit unlawful, harmful, exploitative, or non-consensual sexual content.
Generate targeted harassment, credible threats, fraud, malware, or instructions for wrongdoing.
Impersonate any person or falsely claim affiliation with any individual or entity.
Circumvent rate limits, security measures, or usage controls.
Reverse engineer, scrape, resell, or otherwise abuse the Service.
Submit passwords, payment credentials, government identifiers, sensitive personal data, confidential client information, or material you do not have the right to use.

We may remove content, throttle or block requests, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose legal or security risks.

5. Third-party IP and "unofficial" notice

CharForge is an independent, unofficial tool. Names, characters, settings, logos, trademarks, and works of any third party remain the property of their respective owners. CharForge is not affiliated with, sponsored by, authorized by, or endorsed by any such third party. You are solely responsible for obtaining the rights and permissions you need before you use AI-generated output commercially, publish it, or combine it with protected material.

6. Plans, credits, and payment

The Service is offered under the following subscription plans and credit packs:

Free — $0. 3 monthly credits, manual characters, basic fields, and JSON export.
Pro — $8.99 per month or $79 per year. 80 monthly credits, Character Bible, Cast workspace, and Markdown, Scrivener, and Notion exports.
Pro Plus — $15.99 per month or $139 per year. 200 monthly credits, plus world building, multi-projects, and priority support.

Credit Mini is $4.99 for 35 credits and Credit Standard is $9.99 for 75 credits; purchased credits do not expire. A Simple Character uses 1 credit, a Character Bible uses 2, and a Cast relationship map uses 3. Exact plan contents, feature gates, taxes, and renewal terms are shown at checkout and in the in-app account page. Full card numbers are processed by Creem; we do not collect or store them.

7. Refunds and cancellation

Refunds are governed by the Refund Policy. Nothing here limits mandatory consumer rights granted by applicable law. Pro and Pro Plus subscription refunds are available within 7 days of the original charge. Credit packs may be refunded while unused, but used credit packs are not refundable except where required by law. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals and does not automatically refund the current paid period.

8. Our intellectual property and feedback

The Service, software, brand, site content, and documentation belong to CharForge or its licensors. No ownership of your content transfers to us. You may provide feedback or suggestions; we may use them without compensation or obligation, but this does not transfer ownership of any of your content to us.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability.
CharForge is not a law firm, publisher, literary agent, therapist, or other professional adviser. AI output is not legal, medical, financial, safety, or factual advice.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data.
Our aggregate liability is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the 3 months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $100.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including statutory rights of consumers and liability for gross negligence or willful misconduct where exclusion is impermissible.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, that continued access poses a security or legal risk, or that we are required to do so by law. Where appropriate, we will give you advance notice. Termination does not relieve you of payment obligations for the period before termination, subject to the Refund Policy.

11. Governing law and disputes

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated where required by law. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
